This June, step into a world of enchantment and heritage as Peover Hall opens its doors and hidden gardens for a special charity weekend. Nestled within the picturesque Tatton Estate near Knutsford, this Cheshire gem invites visitors to experience its beauty on Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th June from 2pm to 5pm, supporting the National Garden Scheme (NGS).

Peover Hall’s gardens offer a captivating blend of history and natural splendour. Designed at the turn of the 20th century, the estate’s grounds are laid out as charming ‘garden rooms’, each distinct with clipped box hedging, tranquil water features, and fragrant rhododendrons. Discover hidden passageways, admire meticulously sculpted topiary, and lose yourself among the warm brick walls and romantic Romanesque loggia. The classic walled garden provides a peaceful retreat, perfect for those seeking tranquillity amidst nature.

Beyond the gardens, visitors can explore the wider estate, including the magnificent Grade I listed Carolean stables, built in 1654. Known for their intricately carved stalls, original Tuscan columns, and exquisite architectural detail, the stables offer a fascinating glimpse into the estate’s storied past. The parish church of St Lawrence, with its historic Mainwaring Chapels, and charming estate cottages further enhance the experience, making a visit to Peover Hall a richly rewarding day out.

Adding to the charm, the estate’s tearooms will welcome visitors throughout the afternoon, serving delicious homemade cakes, traditional cream teas, and refreshing beverages. For gardening enthusiasts inspired by their visit, a plant stall will offer a delightful selection of species grown right on the estate, allowing guests to take home a living memento.

History lovers will appreciate guided tours of the Grade II listed Elizabethan Hall, built in 1585. Some of which will be led by Tatton Estate Trustee, Henry Brooks, these tours promise a unique insight into the Estate’s heritage, filled with personal anecdotes and hidden tales known only to the family. Spaces for the house tours are limited and must be booked in advance via https://www.peoverhall.co.uk/booking/.
